California Sagebrush
Artemisia californica

This rounded, many branched shrub reaches a height of 4 feet.  Leaves are grayish, hairy, fragrant and divided into many thread-like segments, clustered in bunches.  Tiny yellow flowers bloom from August to December.  it is found in chaparral, coastal scrub, and dry foothills from the central California coast and south.

Native American Usage

The Native Americans used the leaves to help cure colds.  A solution was made from the plants to ease childbirth.
