Red Shoulder Hawk
Range:
North America from southern Canada to Florida, west to the Great Plains. Also
found in California. Habitat: Prefers deciduous woodlands, especially where there is standing water. Diet: Rodents, skunks, birds, lizards, turtles, frogs, snakes, salamanders, grasshoppers, spiders and earthworms. Nest: 2-4 dull white, blotched eggs are laid in a nest built of sticks, twigs, bark, moss and lichen. Often uses nests of previous years. Both parents incubate the eggs for ~28 days. General Information: Top flight speed is 34 m.p.h. Females are larger than the males.
