Indian Mallow
Abutilon palmeri

The Indian mallow is a compact shrub native to scrub communities of southwestern United States low deserts.  The maple-like foliage has silver, velvet-like leaves.  The bright, showy orange flowers bloom from may to October.  The plant is often foraged by deer, sheep, and goats.

Native American Usage

The Native Americans used the tough fibers from the stems for weaving and to make rope.
