Evergreen Currant
Ribes viburnifolium

This low-growing plant is found on Catalina Island and Baja California. The leathery dark green leaves have a pine or apple fragrance after a rain, hence the name of Catalina Perfume. The light pink to purplish flowers bloom from February to April. The red berries ripen in summer.

Native American Usage

The Native Americans ate the fresh berries.
