Douglas Iris
Iris douglasiana
The Douglas Iris can be found in grassy slopes and open brush
along the coastal ranges from southern Oregon to central California. The flowers
bloom from March to May. The flowers have five long petals. The petals range in
color from purple to white.
Native American Usage
The leaves were used to make twine and rope for nets and snares. Babies were
wrapped in the leaves during berry gathering trips. Flowers were used in dance
wreaths at the Strawberry Festival.
