Coyote Mint
Monardella villosa

This aromatic 2 foot perennial has 1 inch, light purple flowers which bloom from June to August.  It can be found in northern coastal scrub, redwood forest, foothill woodland and mixed evergreen communities.  Coyote mint is found in western North America.  It is drought tolerant and has a toothpaste-like scent.  Butterflies often use this plant as a nectar source.

Native American Usage

The Native Americans made an infusion of the leaves to be taken for stomachaches.  A decoction of the plant and plant salve was used for respiratory conditions.
