White-nosed Coati Nasua narica Range: Arizona, Mexico, and Central and South America. Habitat: Arid country and open forests. Vocalizations: Loud grunt when alarmed. Squeaks. Diet: Vertebrates, small invertebrates, fruit. Habits: Dirunal (active during the day). Females forage in large groups. Males are generally solitary. General Information: Related to the raccoon. The females and their young associate in bands of 5-12 animals. The solitary males are often called coatimundi, which means “lone coati” in German.
