Barn Owl

Tyto alba

Description:  14”-20”.  Pale heart-shaped face, no ear tufts. Back golden-brown, belly white. 

Range: United States, Europe, Asia, Africa. 

Habitat:  Woodlands, fields, canyons, cliffs.  Often found near human habitation. 

Diet: Rodents. 

Nest: Lays 5-6 eggs in a depression in a tree cavity. 

General Information: Like most birds of prey, owls ingest bone and fur, but are not capable of digesting it.  This residual material is formed into a pellet in the stomach and regurgitated.
